El Bosque
EClub de Golf El Bosque opened in 1975 and is one of several courses designed by Robert Trent Jones during his most prolific spell in the 70s. Its just 12 miles to the west of Valencia, on pine-clad foothills to the north of Chiva. It has held the PGA Seniors Tour and in 1990 the El Bosque Open was won by Vijay Singh. The 6,900 yard par 72 course is laid out in a classical style, most fairways are tree-lined and water comes into play on 5 holes.
El Saler
Built in 1968 Campo de Golf El Saler is located 8 miles from the centre of Valencia in a nature reserve on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, renowned by professionals and amateurs alike to have one of the best course layouts in the world. The course design varies from links to areas of Mediterranean Forest and has held the Spanish Open on 4 different occasions. The first in 1984, then 1989, 2001 and finally in 2013.
Escorpion
Escorpion Club de Golf at its present location opened in 1976 on what was an Orange Plantation and the amazing clubhouse was clearly the very wealthy landowners home built in 1896.
On the 19th May the course was officially inaugurated with an amateur competition, at the end of the same year it hosted the Spanish Professional Championship in which Severiano Ballesteros, Manuel Pinero, Antonio Garrido, Jose Maria Canizares and the rest of the competitors participated in the Invincible Navy. From that moment the course has held some of the best competitions in Spain and its major highlight was the Spanish Open in 1980.
In 2000 an extra 9 holes was added, creating a golfers paradise of 27 in total
La Galiana
La Galiana Golf Course is a relative newcomer to the area and a great addition. Opening in 2011 its located an hours drive from Valencia in the beautifully secluded Barraca de Aguas Vivas Valley and within a perfectly preserved Mediterranean Pine Forest with incredible views. The course is undulating, challenging and always a pleasure to play.
Mediterraneo
Mediterraneo Golf is a very pleasant hour drive along the eastern seaboard of Spain from the centre of Valencia, designed by Ramón Espinosa and opened in 1978 the 18-hole layout embodies all that is good about parkland golf in Spain. Laid out amongst olive, poplar and carob trees in a wide secluded valley slightly inland from the coast.
The course is where Sergio Garcia played as a junior and it was fitting that he won the 2008 Castelló Masters by three shots from Peter Hedblom. Just getting the tournament here was extremely special for me and my family he commented after his win. The Castelló Masters returned in October 2010 and 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero won the event by four shots becoming the youngest ever European Tour winner, Sergio Garcia prevailed once more in the 2011 winning by eleven shots.
Oliva Nova
Oliva Nova golf club has 18 holes designed by Seve Ballesteros in 1995, it covers around 125 acres with wide sprawling fairways, smooth greens with gentle undulations and water hazards to determine the strategy of the game.
Host of many professional tournaments, the course is part of the recent history of Spanish golf. It is situated just a few miles from the Marjal Pego nature reserve and very close to the dunes that you find in this area. A unique place which is around an hours drive south from the city of Valencia.
